The Complete Maiden Voyage Recordings is finally out! Laurie Pepper, Ed Michel and Cheryl Pawelski have plotted this one for nearly 20 years and it's finally available! Every last note that Art played at the LA club, The Maiden Voyage is here, spread across 7 CDs. These August, 1981 shows threw off several LPs for the Galaxy label, but this is everything as it happened, in between song patter and loads of previously unissued performances.
Ten months after these shows, Art passed away. Not only did we have the benefit of having the original producers involved, Laurie also wrote the liner notes and provided her personal photos, including pictures from the shows. Best of all, she allowed Omnivore Recordings to scan Art's personal notebooks with his thoughts and ideas for release of the material. It's remarkably rare to have this sort of first hand insight from an artist who is no longer with us. The audio has been painstakingly restored and mastered by Michael Graves from the original reels and sounds fantastic.
