What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?

A lost chapter, finally heard

In 1970, Blood, Sweat & Tears were at the height of their powers. Their self-titled second album had spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, produced multiple Top 5 singles, and won the GRAMMY® Award for Album of the Year—surpassing Abbey Road. Then, at the peak of their success, the band embarked on an unexpected State Department–sponsored tour behind the Iron Curtain.

That tour—through Yugoslavia, Romania, and Poland—was filmed and recorded, but the documentary was never released and the music was never issued. For more than 50 years, it remained unheard.

Omnivore Recordings now releases the soundtrack to the acclaimed documentary What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?, directed by John Scheinfeld. The album features ten previously unissued live performances from the 1970 tour, capturing the band at its creative and performative peak.

Lovingly curated and produced by founding member Bobby Colomby, the soundtrack was mastered at Osiris Studio by Michael Graves, who worked closely with Colomby to preserve the power, clarity, and historical character of these long-lost recordings.

More than a soundtrack, this release restores a vital moment in rock history—finally allowing these performances to be heard as they were meant to be.
